Research Projects

Target: Development of a smart phantom for the optimization and education of ultrasound imaging diagnosis and guided interventions.

The goal of the research group SPUSI is to develop realistic phantoms of the human body. The purpose of this phantoms is to mimic real human tissue with respect to acoustic and haptic properties. This is done in order to optimize the image quality of innovative medical products and to reduce the number of necessary iteration cycles, which results in a shorter development period.

Furthermore, the developed phantoms should form a profound basis for the development of training systems for several clinical applications. The systematic use of realistic ultrasound phantoms within the development process of ultrasound imaging systems should lead to an improved diagnosis quality. Additionally, training systems that use phantoms for the teaching of basic medical and technical skills should contribute to the best possible medical education and advanced training.
